Service and Leadership Are Important to Dr. Jack Markusen
Service is important to Dr. Jack Markusen, and he often serves in leadership roles. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968 and served as an airborne electronics technician until he was honorably discharged in 1971. Two years later he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Baptist College of Charleston (now Charleston Southern University). He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina, School of Dentistry in 1976. At MUSC he was dental school class president and student government president, as well as a member of Psi Omega, a professional dental fraternity.

Dr. Jack Markusen has held leadership roles in several professional organizations, including South Carolina state president of the American Society of Dentistry for Children and public information officer for the South Carolina chapter of the Academy of General Dentistry. He has served as a certified trainer for Dentrix Dental Systems and trained dental staffs throughout the Southeast. He is committed to continuing education to improve his own skills and has participated in many lectures and training seminars around the country and internationally.
Dr. Jack Markusen enjoys serving local community through the Lions Club. He has served as the Lions Eye Bank director, among other roles with the organization. He is also a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church and sits on the board of directors of the Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. In his free time, he enjoys reading and going to as many South Carolina Gamecocks football games as possible.
